Muscle Soreness - To Workout or To Not Workout??'ve started a new fitness program and are feeling a little sore!! It's hard to even think about going up or down stairs and to sit down to go potty is killer!! haha.....We have all been there!!

I have certainly had my share of DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) or muscle soreness form working out!! ESPECIALLY when I am starting any new program. I feel like it happens within the first 12-24 hours after a different workout. When you do the same type of workouts day in and day out, your body gets used to it and eventually will stop responding. Whenever I get sore - I actually feel like I am doing my body GOOD by introducing new workouts to motivate and stimulate new muscle growth and repair. New muscle growth = more calories and fat burned and feeling leaner and tighter!

According to a new study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, working out the day after a tough workout can help ease soreness  -- even though it may be the last thing you feel like doing. I know from my OWN experience, when I DO workout when I am feeling sore, I always feel better. It massages the lactic acid and other metabolic waste associated with soreness -- out of the muscles to help alleviate the pain.

Previous research has also shown that increased blood flow speeds delivery of nutrients to damaged muscles, makes tissues more elastic, and increases range of motion—all of which can help ease pain and boost recovery. So work it OUT to feel better! ;)

Here are some tips to help with the DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness):

Typically, DOMS will subside within seven days post exercise. Here are some more tips and tricks to help alleviate the soreness:

* STRETCH -- this ALWAYS makes me fee better
* Go for a walk
* Get a massage -- or have someone massage where you are sore
* Enjoy a hot bath
* Remember to warm-up AND cool-down before and after every workout
* A fish oil supplement can help
* Have an orange before you workout

If you are sitting most of the day while at work, remember to try to stretch when you can to get the blood flowing and DRINK WATER all day long.

REST is also important! It is important to rest the muscles that are sore and have been worked. This is why, when following a Beachbody program, they are designed by the most often you are going to rest the muscles that have been worked so that they may recover adequately.
